Rohan and Laura were visiting Burnaby from Toronto when he planned a pretty creative surprise proposal at Deer Lake Park. The location already had a special connection for Laura, as parts of her favourite movie, Bend It Like Beckham, were filmed around the park. Rohan took things a step further by creating a custom T-shirt with a sweet proposal message on it. While Laura was reading it and realizing what was happening, Rohan got down on one knee and asked her to marry him. Her reaction was exactly what you hope for during a surprise proposal: complete surprise, happy tears, and plenty of laughter.

After Laura said yes, we explored Deer Lake Park for their engagement photos as the sun started to set. The lake, surrounding trees, and views toward Burnaby gave us a beautiful backdrop as the evening light changed, creating a mix of relaxed portraits and more dramatic sunset photographs.

Planning a surprise proposal from out of town can make the details a little more complicated, but me and Rohan had everything carefully planned. From the custom T-shirt to the timing and location, it came together perfectly, making their Deer Lake Park proposal a memorable way to start their next chapter together.
